colored burnout cherub with wings and cigar

Sandy D’Ambrosio is a Swiss-based digital artist working with AI-generated imagery.

Her work focuses on contemporary emotional states, using recurring figures and symbolic narratives to explore themes such as burnout, power, vulnerability, and quiet resistance.

Through long-term series and cinematic compositions, she creates visual worlds that reflect both personal and societal tensions.

“My putti exist where irony meets exhaustion, where tenderness collides with anger, and where humor is often the last form of resistance.”

Artist Statement

For the past two years, the cherubs have become my way of looking at the world.

They are not symbols of innocence, nor nostalgia. They are small witnesses.

My putti exist where irony meets exhaustion, where tenderness collides with anger, and where humor is often the last form of resistance.

They smoke, they judge, they walk through ruins, they sit quietly by windows, they scream and fly – not because they are heroic, but because they are overwhelmed, like we are.

I use cherubs because they carry centuries of meaning: divine messengers, decorative figures, harmless ornaments.

By placing them into contemporary emotional states – burnout, moral conflict, helplessness, defiance – they become mirrors.

They are fragile, sometimes cruel, sometimes tired, sometimes painfully honest.

This series is not about provocation for its own sake. It is about living in a world that constantly demands more, faster, louder – and finding moments of truth in between.

The cherubs do not offer solutions. They simply stay. And look back at us.
